Nathan Burrell’s Favorite Ways to Enjoy the River

Critics' Pick

  • Scott Elmquist

In April the city promoted trail manager Nathan Burrell to manager of the 600-acre-plus James River Park System, succeeding longtime director Ralph White, who retired in December. We asked Burrell to share five favorite spots in and around the James River:

Buttermilk Trail
The Pump House
Pipeline Trail
Coopers Island
Belle Isle bike park

And three of the most unconventional ways to enjoy the James:

Snorkeling at Pipeline
Boldering on Buttermilk
Bird watching.

(Sorry, no information is currently available for other years in this same award category.)
