Re: “Food Review: Jorge‚Äôs Cantina

You are fixated on 'authenticity.' It is hubris to think the reviewer possessed of so developed and cosmopolitan a palate that 'authenticity' can be adduced at all--let alone from the foul miasma of status-signalling emitted by those wealthy patrons eating out at 'that new place." Let us not forget:
"Authenticity, Mr. Potter writes, is "a positional good, which is valuable precisely because not everyone can have it." By competing against one another to see who is more authentic, he says, we just become bigger phonies than we were before."…

Re: “Food Counsel

Yes, I always wanted the nutritional equivalent of a Crisis Pregnancy Center in Ellwoods. Teach the controversy, brougham!

Re: “Richmond Chilly to Naked Readers

Their aesthetic is not "emo." It is "scenester" as in if you come to the show, you're in the scene and 'understand/grok' it, and if you don't, you're not and a joyless 'shitbird.' It's not that I necessarily disapprove of this elitist mindset.

I spent 15 years learning Bharatanatyam and performing in front of small crowds. Never once did I solicit media attention, complain about the reporter and then blame the lack of attendance on inchoate forces of cultural conservatism or the insufficiently developed performing arts palate of Virginia. I appreciated the knowledgeable few patrons who watched. They were the best. It's best not to care about the rest.
