Re: “Exile on Grace Street

Aw. The Village had incredible subs and the "ladies" and I would go there next afternoon after our walk of shame from Hey Baby's. I was in Rhodes Hall for a bit, then the Fan for several years. When Boz Scaggs came to the VCU gym I found myself on a date with the drummer and we went to that fancy-ass restaurant downtown (started with a 4?) and my 19-year old self was feelin' the Ritz! .....and then there was, The Ritz! Worked at House of Ligh on Broad to get myself through school. And stayed at the Jefferson when rooms were being used for dorms. Then served Peanut Soup on the mezzanine. I loved my apartment #6 at 210 N. Stafford ....and walked over to the Fan Grill to eat pineapple cheeseburgers and smoke cigarettes. Needed nothin' but shoes and a bike to get anywhere I wanted. Funniest sight on Shaffer Court was seeing George McGovern get pan-caked for a TV interview. There's so much more....too much fun!
