Re: “Maggie Walker Still Struggles to Admit Blacks

As a BLACK student at Maggie Walker, let me say this. Maggie Walker is not as prestigious or effective as white parents make it seem. I've found myself doing a lot of busy work and realizing that I was not able to retain important information simply because I was given a lot of useless BS, like Shakespeare's sexuality being questionable. I also realized that teachers are not able to change their approach to certain objectives to help "different" students. We all know about the Richmond's red lining. That means that students are not given the same educational resources. This DOES NOT mean that students are not gifted in learning. Come to Maggie and see who actually has common sense and can survive socially outside of Maggie's walls... Very few! The parental involvement argument is invalid. White parents PAY for education. That is not an option for all parents. That doesn't mean they are not involved and are careless about their child's future. Let me know how many white stidents are accepted from Hopewell, Va. Not many, you know why? Because they are not rich. Or will you say that their parents aren't involved either?
