Re: “Richmond Food Co-op Comes to South Side

Good news, since we will be losing the Martins at 7045 Forest Hill by the end of the year. Apparently, it's not one of the stores Publix picked up, and Martins said in January that they'd be gone by the end of 2017.

Re: “Meet the People Behind the Curtains of Richmond's Mayoral Campaigns

Orca and PackFan: Perhaps in lieu of getting your factfix on Style Weekly, you could read the Times-Dispatch today, which has kindly explained that the timing of the events to which you refer is ballywonkers. For starters, the campaign of the wife of the FBI agent referred to, to which Governor McAuliffe contributed, ended well before her husband became involved in the investigation of Secretary Clinton's emails. There was no congruence whatever in those two separate timelines. Check out the dates yourself. It was yet another Trumpian effort to tie together two things which have no relationship, either in time or space, and there are quite a number of sites and postings online to refute the claim of a payoff.

Re: “What's Going on With Richmond's Grocery Store Scene?

Honestly, it's all about selection. We moved here from Northern Virginia in 2009, five years after Royal Ahold bought Giant grocery stores and merged them with Stop and Shop. At that point, Giant lost almost 1/3 of the brands they had formerly carried - pickles, ketchup, mustard, frozen foods, crackers, baking supplies - you name it, 1/3 of the brand names went away. When Giant and Martin's merged, another 1/4 to 1/3 disappeared. The problem is, it can be pretty hard to find something specific any more. The same brands show up at several stores, but, for example, I think Kroger is the only one who sells Campbells Pork & Beans. Or a store will sell only one size of an item, like Hormel Chili without Beans, when the smaller size is the one I always buy. You get the picture - I am longing for Wegman's stores to open, likewise Publix. I've shopped at both, and the selection and customer service are awesome! (And Publix makes these GREAT subs inhouse!)

Re: “Guts and Glory

I absolutely love liver, sauteed and served with onions (and - oh, delight - bacon!), but have learned not to order it in restaurants, since it is almost always overcooked and inedible. But nobody sells fresh liver, even at the local butcher's stores, and nobody eats frozen liver except pets. I also love steak and kidney pie, which my father used to make for special occasions, with mashed potatoes in place of the pastry (which wasn't his 'thing'). Again, I've only seen the occasional frozen kidney. I'd love to try grilled kidneys, maybe as part of a real mixed grill?

Long story short, there are a lot of people who miss eating offal - the bits nobody else apparently wants. Why is it so hard to find them? And where can I download the menus of those local restaurants who do offer them (and hopefully take care not to overcook these delicate tidbits)?
