Screening of "Step" at the Byrd Theatre
Jan. 20.
Join Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, University of Richmond-Bonner Center for Civic Engagement and the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities for a screening of "Step," a 2017 documentary about a girl's high school step team from inner city Baltimore. Guided discussion follows. The screening is free, but donations of items for the Richmond Public Schools encouraged. 2019 Day of Action at Patrick Henry Building

A daylong event in keeping with the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.: This annual gathering of civil rights and community organizations provides a meet-up with key elected officials to address legislative priorities including raising the minimum wage, education, criminal justice reform, voting rights and redistricting. 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Go-Go Explosion Day Party at Diversity Richmond
Jan. 21
This one features two Washington party bands Team Familiar and Suttle Thoughts alongside Richmond's own J Baxter and Sauce Band plus King Tutt, Sir RJ and DJ Cash Money RVA. 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door. diversityrichmond.org.

"I am MLK Jr." Screening at Bow Tie Cinemas
Jan. 21
Presented by Network NoVA Action and Sisters United, Learning and Working Together, a documentary explores the life of the American icon with a short discussion and celebration either before or after the screening with state legislators. 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets cost $12 and are available at gathr.us/screening/23316.
