Re: “Reconstruction

I'm from Phoenix but had the privilege of living in Richmond for 6 months through work. I love the city and would jump on the opportunity to move back. I love history which is the main reason I enjoyed Richmond so much. I had never before been exposed to Confederate history as it was my first time in the south for an extended period. I think it would be a mistake to tear down the monuments and General Lee's in particular. They in my belief General Lee was not fighting to protect slavery. He was fighting to protect Virginia evident by the name of the army he led which was the Army of Northern Virginia. Even more Lee was instrumental in reconstruction and most followed his lead in being compliant and working with the union instead of against. Obviously I can't speak for what a black person thinks of when they see those monuments and if it is hurtful to the black community then I would agree to take it down but I see it as a symbol of a person who wanted to protect Virginia.

Re: “Brewer’s Café Brings Coffeehouse Options to South Richmond

Glad to see a great person like Brewer realize his dream and achieve it! Nothing's impossible!
