Matt Keating at the Camel

If they ever make a movie about Southern rocker Tom Petty, Matt Keating would make an excellent stunt double. But let's hope the veteran pop rocker keeps the somewhat less dangerous job of musician so he can make more music like the just-released “Quixotic.” The album has caught the ear of the music press (No Depression says, “His songs are elegant in structure and packed with wordplay that can amuse, dazzle, or hit way too close to home.”) and regular old newspapers like USA Today (“... a double CD just crammed full of first-rate songs ...”). Sounds like Keating can afford to leave the rough stuff to the professionals. The songwriter comes to the Camel on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 8 p.m. $5. 353-4901.
