Re: “Virginia Members of Electoral College Say They're Voting With Mixed Emotions

Yes, we are a nation of states, but the election of the president & vice-president is the single case which should be decided by a nationwide popular election. At what point is the (benefit of) symbolism of statehood overcome by the (cost of) loss of majority will? That is, how many more American votes will we tolerate going unheard before we do something about it? In 2000, it was 500,000 votes and in 2016 it was 3,000,000. Most importantly, the fundamental fault of the current implementation of the Electoral College is the lack of population proportionality for the votes assigned to each state. Compare the proportionality of population and votes in the case of Wyoming and California and this becomes clear. Popular election is the only clear choice.
