Re: “Checking the Pulse

It takes the same amount of time to get from Willow Lawn to downtown as it always did. The Pulse stops at every station. Bicycle riders take a long time loading and unloading their bikes. One guy had to remove two bikes to get his, then put the two bikes back. All they ever needed was an express No 6 that made fewer stops and came more often.

Re: “Two Community Weeklies to Cease Publication Thursday

The Progress sustained itself for many years printing other people's papers as well when it had the big printing press in the airpark office where a beer brewery currently is, and the '90s was a time of a lot of little free distribution street papers, which all seem to be gone now. I didn't think, when it gave up the printing press, it'd be able to sustain itself. When I was doing a paper, 80 percent of its income went to pay the Progress to print it, so they must have been paying someone else to print their own paper at the end.

Re: “Opinion: 40 Years Later, Here's Why I'm Rooting for Regency Square Mall

I miss O'Brienstein's and the Magic Pan, and wasn't there an O'Farrells or some kind of pizza or ice cream emporium where the staff had to wear striped jackets and straw hats?

Re: “Southern Season to Close

Upscale gift shop in a working class neighborhood, cooking classes for people who have no time to take cooking classes, restaurant with no identity and no entrance except through the store, things you would never buy unless you needed a gift for a society bridal shower. What were they thinking? Cracker Barrel would have done better at this location, with same theme except blue collar: restaurant you access by passing through a lobby full of quirky gifts

Re: “Tacky Light Tours: 30 Years Ago, Barry “Mad Dog” Gottlieb Changed Christmas in Richmond Forever

It was a pretty amazing turn-around for this town, considering when I first moved here, no one did anything but a single white candle in every front window.
