Low Five is a series of paintings by San Diego based artist Walter Sutin. His paintings balance an automatic approach and urgent subject matter to depict moments that are stretched to include an expanded field for action. The paintings simultaneously invoke feelings of ecstasy and crisis. Spaces created by Sutin are those of change and openness are where a viewer can search for meaning and purpose. Transformations are often traumatic but can be the key to enlightenment all the same.
