At one time Richmond had several markets - real markets like the Lancaster, PA Central Market. Unfortunately, we destroyed all but one (6th St.) Why not purchase this land close to where there had been a market area and build one that will draw people. Then use another part of the purchased land to build a first-class slave museum where people could come to honor the lives affected there, study the history and enable people to do genealogical research. People whose ancestors were slaves are already traveling to do research.

It's refreshing to read the history of some of Richmond's iconic structures (even those that are no longer with us). Totally agree with you about the pick and choose attitude of history buffs in Richmond and the plans for the Slip and Farmer's Market area. Wish there was a way to protect areas like this from people who don't truly appreciate their significance. My family goes back to the 1700's in Richmond and I feel their footsteps.
