LETTER: Proposed Stadium is Moving Baseball Away From Fans

Even if Mayor Jones’ Shockoe Bottom proposal can fly (include me among the skeptics), I think he’s greatly overestimating the willingness of suburbanites, who comprise most of the Flying Squirrels’ fan base, to drive downtown to what will become a very congested area and park in a 1,700-space parking garage (spare me!). Note that the Atlanta Braves are planning to build a new stadium and move to the suburbs in four years, to be closer to their fans and to improve access and parking. Most Squirrels fans will go to see one game in a new stadium, but the question is, will they come back on a regular basis?
