LETTER: Different Opinions on Same-Sex Marriage

Thank you for the article “Things Just Got Real.”. It was indeed a privilege for us, here at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, to host the service this year for the Transgender Day of Remembrance. We believe in the dignity of all men and women, whatever their gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age or race. We are all God’s beloved children, deserving of kindness, respect, true equality and full inclusion. In this same spirit, our vestry has endorsed Attorney General Mark Herring’s decision to join the effort to strike down Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage. May God bless us all as we stand up for justice for all Virginians!

Things Just Got Unreal. Earth to gay marriage supporters: It’s not just about adults. Nobody objects to love, but we’re talking about men purchasing babies and taking away their mothers. We’re talking about lesbians denying a boy a much-needed father. We’re separating marriage from biology and discounting blood ties. In a contest between adult desire and Mother Nature, it won’t end well for us.

Adults can love children anywhere, but children in these families currently have no voice. Look up Dawn Stefanowicz and Robert Oscar Lopez. They both grew up in LBGT households.

Children become enmeshed. They know they’re growing up differently and no amount of diversity training will change that. They know that some kids have mothers and fathers. They’re not learning about heterosexual relationships, about how mainstream society functions. Give it 20-30 years. We’ll hear back from them.

The propaganda is relentless and people want acceptance. People get caught up with misguided idealism because they feel that their lives gain meaning and importance — even if it’s about men taking a mother from a baby. Some of us see the train wreck coming, but true believers aren’t listening.
