How do film and music influence culture? That’s the theme tackled at Legacy Media Institute’s second annual International Film Festival, which features 40 short and feature-length films from directors and producers from more than 10 countries. The celluloid celebration, Friday through Sunday, Oct. 17-19, will be held at a variety of venues in Petersburg and Fort Lee. Expect an abundance of screenings, discussions, musical performances and related happenings. Some of the festival highlights include screenings of the Nima Beltijeh-directed 2014 drama “Utopie,” the American premiere of Cuban 3-D-animated film “Meñique,” and the documentary about a former slave, seamstress, civic activist and author, Elizabeth Keckley. You’ll see movies here that you won’t see anywhere else. For ticket prices, show times and a schedule, visit lmi-iff.org.
