Re: “Commentary: Go Slowly, Here Comes the Pulse

It doesn't have to be all or nothing--we can have both, cars for mothers and buses for students (although what mothers did with strollers and diaper bags before two-car families is anyone's guess--it think they rode the bus). Concerning people crossing the street from the median--how is that worse than crossing both directions of traffic if you are on one side of the street, and you must get to the other side? Concerning people elderly people in general--having a bus as an option to not driving and being home bound is a blessing. At some point most people either give up their license or have it taken away. The buses are equipped to handle people with walkers and the drivers are trained to help them. Finally, regarding falling off the platform--it is more likely that someone with too much to drink may have a problem; but at least they won't be driving. And there are ramps and railings.
There are many reasons to drive a car; there are just as many reason for taking a bus.

Re: “Commentary: Go Slowly, Here Comes the Pulse

The new routes will run every 15 minutes during the day; schedules are posted on the GRTC website, and GRTC has a great app for tracking your bus--'Bus Tracker', and another with ALL the routes, fares, schedules, etc--'GRTC, Transit on the Go'. You can use THAT app to play "What if.." to plan trips in the future.

Re: “Commentary: Go Slowly, Here Comes the Pulse

I cannot wait for this new addition/improvement to Richmond transit! I plan to take the entire FREE week to explore Richmond by bus, learn the new routes, and even take my paints and palette with me to paint at certain destination points (starting at 6:30am at Willow Lawn on Sunday). These growing pains are not unique to Richmond. Initiatives like this are taking place in 30+ cities over the U.S. I am not normally a bus rider, but I would like to see if I can change that, especially with parking being such a issue (and always has been) for downtown, and First Fridays. Have bus pass, will travel (and paint). Linda Hollett-Bazouzi
