Lawyer Fees Nearly 900K

The Virginia Supreme Court soon will hear Mayor L. Douglas Wilder's attorneys' attempts to refloat seemingly waterlogged arguments in two cases he previously lost in front of Richmond Circuit Court Judge Margaret Spencer. Those arguments are that the city's chief executive should be able to disregard city ordinances and the city charter and that he should be able to fire employees of the City Council.

The taxpayers' tab so far to pay outside lawyers arguing the case, including those hired by City Council and Wilder: $883,445.53.
