Kitchen Fires

Deveron Timberlake's Short Order column (“Amuse Awaits,” April 7) on the new restaurant to open in the expanded and renovated Virginia Museum of Fine Arts sparked a flurry of online discussion. Here are some excerpts:

Here it is 12 years later I return to Richmond after cooking in NY, DC and CA. I worked for two restaurants, Si Tapas and Q — then abruptly quit the business altogether because it's a joke in Richmond. And now Greg Haley is the chef of “the most incredible destination restaurant I'd say on the East Coast,” suspicions confirmed. — Joshua Ball, April 7, 9:16 a.m.

I will definitely give him a chance and look forward to seeing what he's all about. I have seen what a huge difference the years have made here as far as food goes. — Anonymous, April 7, 12:54 p.m.

Declaring Richmond restaurants a “joke” ... undermines the hard work of hundreds of people who are trying to change the reputation of a town that has been bullied by … losers like you for decades. — ric for me, April 8, 12:08 p.m.
