Re: “Sweet Memories

60,000 charities and non-profit corporations are in the State of Virginia. Give $10, $100, or $1 million dollars to any of these institutions, and you have no protections, no rights as a donor, no say as a stakeholder. Mayor Tomlinson is the Sweet Briar Alumna who donated $1MM, and received a hand written Thank-you note from Mr. Jim Jones, the purported Interim President, on 2/16/15, thanking her for supporting "future generations of Sweet Briar women", and on 3/3/15 it was announced the school was closing. Too bad. We're keeping your money and doing whatever we want with it because we are closing. Boo hoo. Who's job is it to protect VA Donors? It's the job of The Hon. Mark. R. Herring, Virginia's Attorney General. What has he done to help save a 114 year old Historic, venerable woman's college in his state with a larger endowment than Hampden-Sydney College? Nothing. What has he done for the grassroots group Saving Sweet Briar which has raised $17MM in 90 days? Nothing but call a half hearted "mediation" meeting where he dropped in for 15 minutes. What has he done for his own Commonwealth's Attorney in the county of Amherst, which will suffer, as the college employs over 350 residents? Nothing, but write an Amicus Curiae against this wonderful Commonwealth's Attorney, Ellen Bowyer, a champion for us and for what is right, and a woman. Why does our Attorney General do nothing while 12,000 of the Alumnae (3000 in Virginia) are in the fight of our lives? Why? There is always a reason. Why? All I can say is that women have very long memories, Mr. Herring, and this 7th District voter, for one, is paying attention. All charities and donors in Virginia, watch out! The Attorney General you elected does not have your back.
