Juneteenth 2019, a Freedom Celebration

Elegba Folklore Society presents three days of events to celebrate Juneteenth, the holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, abolition of slavery in Texas and the general emancipation of enslaved African-Americans throughout the former Confederate states. The June 14 symposium features Molefi Kete Asante, a leading African-American studies professor and Library of Congress History Maker at Main Street Station from 6 to 8 p.m. On June 15, Independence Day Our Way will be held at the Manchester Dock from 3 to 7 p.m. And on June 16, there will be homage paid to ancestors at Richmond’s African Burial Ground at 3 p.m. To learn details and read about all the events, visit efsinc.org.
