Re: “Letter: Why Should Felons Have An Easier Job Search?

I was addicted to dextromethorphan. Was using it to self medicate for depression and anxiety. I am off of it now, and have been for the past 3 years. When I was using it I had a one track mind, and started shoplifting it when I couldn't pay for it. Stupid, I know. I now have 3 felonies on my record because in my state, no matter how little the get convicted more than 3 times you get a felony, and I was caught 6 times. What i did was wrong, I know that....but I am past it now, have done all time given to me, and am trying to get a fresh start in life. Each offence was maybe 20 dollars or less a pop. (price of cough syrup stole). Stealing Robitussin is the only thing I have ever done. I am not a threat to society, and feel that I do not deserve the label of felon as technically I have never committed a felony. Now, I am going to school studying computer science, trying to get a job to support myself, and my now pregnant fiancee. I know I am not perfect...but I do not feel like I deserve a lifelong red letter on me keeping me from ever having the same chance as everyone else to support my family and myself.
