Jim Brickman at the Carpenter Theatre

Thursday, Dec. 31.

There's an unmistakable sentimentality to the tunes of songwriter Jim Brickman. Having spent his early professional days writing jingles for commercials and composing music for the Muppets, Sesame Street and various Disney projects, the classically trained pianist's soft and amiable melodies rarely venture out of some happy-go-lucky state of relaxation. Whether it's through instrumental arrangements or vocal new-age pop tunes with legitimate hooks, the guy's soothing delivery makes him perfect for translating the musical spirit of the holidays. With numerous Christmas albums under his belt, including 1997's “The Gift,” 2003's “Peace” and 2007's “Homecoming,” Brickman is scheduled to bring his Beautiful World tour, as well as some signature New Year's Eve celebrating, to the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 8 p.m. $38-$58. 592-3400.
