Re: “Recruiting Hate

The Wade Page terrorist attack is NOT an isolated incident. In fact, there have been a number of white supremacist terrorist attacks over the past several years, which you are not hearing about. There are groups and web sites (such as Stormfront) where individuals promoting violence regularly call for such attacks, and most of the recent attacks have supporters involved with or a link to Stormfront (including Mr. Page). Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) has been reporting on these on our web site at

Note that the Style article quotes from part of a 45 minute conversation, so there will be comments where you don't have the full context. For more on this, Responsible for Equality And Liberty's position is detailed at Also note, R.E.A.L. has never called for changes in a Lee memorial in Richmond, but has called for the replacement of the Lee House in Arlington, VA overlooking the nation's capital with a new memorial signifying the unity of all Americans in support of human rights. R.E.A.L. understands the need to respect the history of the United States, but we have seen numerous extremist individuals seek to use Confederate symbols in a way to further divide the nation and take us backwards. That is not respecting history, but seeking to use symbols from the past to promote white supremacism.

The struggle against white supremacism did not end in the 1960s-1970s, but remains a challenge for all Americans today. Mr. Wade Page was a part of the white supremacist movement, and as R.E.A.L. documents on its web site, there are numerous white supremacists who have praised his actions against what they call "mud rabble" and they call for more terrorist violence. You can see the details at

We believe that challenging extremists of any identity group that seeks to deny the human rights, safety, and dignity of our fellow human beings is our share responsibility. Challenging such extremists is not an attack on the identity group, we simply do not accept those who would deny the equality, dignity, safety, and liberty of our fellow human beings based on their identity group. We believe it is part of our common obligation as human beings to be Responsible for Equality And Liberty. Jeffrey Imm, R.E.A.L.
