Jamie Stewart at the Triple

Embarking on his first solo show in five years, Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart will do things a bit differently for those familiar with his experimental stew of ambient synth noise, electronic beats and accessible indie rock. With sets drawing from a repertoire of more than 80 songs — including pieces from a new Xiu Xiu record tentatively scheduled for a 2010 release — played with just an electric guitar, bird call whistles and a stylophone, a miniature synthesizer, Stewart evokes the vocal misery of the Cure's Robert Smith at the Triple on Saturday, April 4, at 9 p.m. As a bonus, he'll take photos of every single person, which will then be posted online, with the best 300 of the tour to be published as a book. Combs provided. 359-7777. -- Mike Hilleary
