Indigo Girls at Groovin' in the Garden

After spending more than two decades in the music-making business, Indigo Girls Amy Ray and Emily Saliers decided to do something they'd never done before: release an album on their own. The result, “Poseidon and the Bitter Bug,” reflects this newfound freedom in that it contains two versions of the same record, one featuring a full band with the other stripped down to its bare acoustics. Maintaining a balance for fans of Ray's punk-rock style and Saliers' more traditional, gentle tunes, the two singers and songwriters mix things up at Lewis Ginter's Groovin' in the Garden on Thursday, June 11, at 6 p.m. With opener Matt Nathanson. $15-$20. 262-9887. — Lauren Nicole Hill
