Independence Day in Richmond

July, 4

While the United States still has a long way to go before equating itself with such time-defying civilizations as the ancient Egyptians or the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires, the country's done pretty well for itself in terms of survival, lasting through all kinds of wars, recessions and depressions, and natural and manmade disasters. Just as imperfect and wonderful as ever, the country is set to celebrate its 234th year as a sovereign nation come July Fourth. For those looking to ooh and aah under a night of explosive color configurations, fireworks displays — at least not the illegal ones in your neighbor's backyard — are set to take place around The Diamond and Dogwood Dell, opening for guests at 6:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
