Homefront: Garden Show to Feature Flowers, Fashion and Feng Shui

The speaker series offers a wealth of information for amateurs and expert gardeners on topics ranging from borders and containers to floral design and feng shui. Well-known gardener Helen Dillon will be traveling from her home in Ireland to speak.

The garden show features a new event — a fashion show with hand-sewn reproductions of Victorian clothing. See what was considered suitable for dancing, dining and even ice skating with explanations of Victorian etiquette from Nancy Lowden, Maymont’s costume coordinator.

A panel on Saturday will feature experts from various societies: Herb, Audubon, African Violet and Bonsai. The lecture series offers talks on perennials, feng shui and the owner of the “best small garden in the world.”

Flower After Hours is a double treat: half off admission and activities for adults and children. The show kicks off Wedesday, Feb. 18, with a Garden Party Preview from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For $75, guests can get a first look, as well as first choice of goods for sale.

The Greater Richmond Convention Center is at Fifth and Marshall streets. Show hours are Thursday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Advance tickets are $12; regular admission costs $14; evening admission (after 5 p.m.) costs $7. Two-day passes are $22; children younger than 12 are admitted free. Some events require reservations. For information, call 358-7166, or visit www.maymont.org.
