Re: “Review: Eddie Izzard at the Carpenter Theatre

Brent, he's not a cross-dresser, which you would know if you had done your homework. He believes in equal-clothing-rights for all, noting that women who wear trousers aren't called "cross-dressers." Plus, you need to look up "flare/flair" and "superfluous" (something either is or isn't superfluous; can't be "more" superfluous -- can't be "more extra"); "a fine suit AND ... red lipstick" (the suit didn't come WITH lipstick); why use the clunky "candy apple red" when "crimson" or "scarlet" are clearer and shorter (plus, you omitted the hyphens necessary in a compound adjective); one BREACHES a wall but BROACHES a topic; and innumerable other errors.
................ Anyone with a byline should treasure language and accuracy, as in "You need to do better" -- and Izzard, one of the best on the planet, deserves better. I encourage you to buy, and read, Garner's Modern American Usage. From now on, if you wouldn't stake your life on the accuracy of what you're typing, then LOOK IT UP before you publish it.
