Hawkins Family at the Landmark

While some argue that brothers Edwin and Walter Hawkins gained their greatest success with the 1969 crossover single, “Oh Happy Day,” you'd be hard-pressed to find a more respected gospel ensemble today than the great Hawkins Family. With its R&B-influenced approach giving rise to a new gospel sound, the Hawkins brothers (together with Lady Tramaine and Lynette) reunite for a special concert performance Saturday, March 14, at 7 p.m. at the Landmark Theater, raising money for the Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church's scholarships and renovations. Considering that the last time these guys were together was for a gig at the White House, you know they don't perform for just any reason. Tickets are $45-$50. 545-2878. — Mike Hilleary
