Hamaganza at Poe's Pub

There are holiday events that have become Richmond institutions. They remind us of the love for cherished traditions that continue to endure as the years pile on. Twelve years running, Hamaganza still isn't one of them. With "Dirtwoman For Mayor," this year's theme, the annual concert of journalists (including Style's own Chris Dovi and Scott Elmquist) and newsmakers is presenting "train wreck" musical theater for two nights at Poe's Pub. According to the official press release, this year's affair "may include all or some of the following: Fire juggling, burlesque dancing girls, local politicians thinly disguised by wigs and spandex, a 500-pound trash-talking transvestite dressed as a Christmas Tree and a death-defying attempt to clear the James River Turning Basin in an environmentally conscious rocket car." A ham or $10 gets you in to this attempt at entertainment that benefits the Central Virginia Food Bank (You can take the ham directly to the food bank.) The hamming starts Dec. 21 and Dec. 22, at 9 p.m. 648-2120.
