The Berserker will be one of the rides open during a day of free admission.

Race fans who want to watch the start of the longest race of the UCI Road World Championships on Sept. 23 can get a special treat -- free admission to Kings Dominion, where the event starts at 1 p.m.

The theme park in Doswell, about 20 miles north of Richmond, also will let visitors ride several rides including the Dominator roller coaster and the Berserker boat ride.

Food and beverage services will be available, plus no-admission access to the park’s Eiffel Tower.

The park is usually closed weekdays during the fall but will open specially for the Men’s Elite Individual Time Trial.

The 32.9-mile race starts at the park, meanders southward on rural Hanover County roads, crosses into Richmond’s North Side and ends at the Greater Richmond Convention Center at 5th and Broad streets downtown. It's expected to end at 3:35 p.m.

The park will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., park communications manager Katelin Curry says.
