Re: “Captain Buzzy’s Might Not Be for Sale After All

Lucas –

Here’s an idea. Why don’t you ask Barrister Fisher King to subpoena the IP addresses on your ‘dislike list’?
He threatened to do this over on a CHPN comment board a while back, much to John M’s chagrin. You could then ask the barrister to sue ‘em for defamation.
Bet you could get it done pro bono.

Re: “AP Error Sparks Lawsuit

Style Weekly, that bastion of tabloid integrity, is running a story about failure to properly check facts? Now that’s funny.

Re: “Ballpark Plan Unravels

With Three Strikes and F.T. Rea obviously gloating over their perceived victory, I think in hindsight it might be time to look at the role of our Council in this fiasco.

First and to get this out of the way, the location of the ballpark is a non-issue to me. Build it on the Boulevard as part of a larger development project. Great…move on it. Selfishly, I could walk to the new park from the Fan. I also recognize some of the benefits and drawbacks in the proposed Bottom site.

I’m sure the mayor and his staff did a poor job at times in communicating facts to Council. Equally, Council has had many, many closed meetings with the Mayor’s staff on this issue and if some of you really believe Council has been in the dark regarding timelines and details or lack thereof regarding the Shockoe project, I’ve got a great bridge to sell you. The Mayor’s comments published in the RTD today indicate that he believes that trust with some members of Council has been breached. Our Council President has a proven track record in hemming, hawing, vacillating and hedging when a controversial vote is near and I find this absolutely believable. I live in the 2nd and I have first-hand experience in dealing with this guy and I can’t help but say ‘watch your back’ every time I see his face in the media.

For the triumphing petitioners, opponents and ‘down with _______’ folks, this is your time so revel in it. Just remember that there are plenty of registered voters in the city who would like to see movement on projects that increase our tax base and provide an improved quality of life. Fine, don’t do it in the Bottom. My hope is that Council will work with the Mayor quickly on a proposal for the Boulevard. The cut rate, minimalistic proposal from the Chesterfield developer should only be a starting point.

To Charles Samuels, I would remind you that a complete and unqualified boob ran against you last election and garnered significant votes in the 2nd. Next time around, you’re going to have plenty of pro-Shockoe Bottom ballpark people pitching in to help whoever decides to weigh in against you. When the Squirrels leave Richmond in 2016 if not before, we’ll be back wallets open and ready to fight.

Re: “Richmond Resistance Protest at Riverrock

I would counter that the die has been set over the past few years. Case in point being the ART 180 controversy on Monument Ave last year that was initially misreported in Style as being due to homeowner opposition. Another example was the blatantly inaccurate blog by Nash on the Camel’s quest for a new SUP earlier this year, which was in fact supported by several neighborhood associations and opposed by only one neighbor. Let’s also consider the recent and anti-you-pick-it drumbeat of editorials from our local menagerie of extremists and activists appearing in Style. As Hugh Joyce recommended last year…“Style Weekly needs to do some soul-searching and should look for the positives from time to time. I know the editors may say, "We need to be critical of everything and we can't seem soft on Bon Secours or any business," but the journalistic tone and the attempt to create negatives where there are not negatives is not good journalism and certainly not good for our city. I am ashamed of the behavior of a paper that I read and that I like.”

I can’t say it any better other than to change the final “and that I like” to past tense.

Re: “Richmond Resistance Protest at Riverrock

..and Brent Baldwin and Style were right there with a piece ready complete with a photo. You’ve got to be kidding me! Approximately 100,000 people come onto Brown’s Island for the weekend and this is the only coverage they throw up?

Re: “2014 Dominion Riverrock

If you ever wanted an indication of the type of whining, complaining troll that loves to leach onto Style Weekly (and no doubt Jason loves them too!), here you go.
