Re: “Opinion: How Safe is a Public Space When Some of Us Feel Nervous Around Open-Carry Weapons?

I usually quote '350 million' as the number of privately-held firearms in America, but just recently someone who claims to have better information suggested it's closer to 750 million. Even at the lower number, we have a 'gun violence problem' only among those who already exhibit a 'violence problem not specific to guns'. We call those people 'criminals', and the number of guns those criminals have is absolutely dwarfed by the number of guns we non-criminals have. Yet, what do we always see proposed? More restrictions on the law-abiding.

When heretofore-otherwise-law-abiding people see a law as nothing more than a deliberate poke in their eye, they tend to ignore it (thus the 'heretofore'), and when those you rely upon to follow the law no longer see the law as something worth following, you have a problem, and it's a problem -- potentially -- without a solution you wish to entertain.

I strongly advise you not to go down that path.
