Foxy Shazam at the Canal Club

It's a mess, that's for sure — a festival of big operatic rock and raucous nightclub tunes and frantic, sweet noise — the Ohio five-piece gets compared to Queen, which should cause a cringe. But no! The band pulls that right off. It dodges the oncoming styles, playing not “songs” but “numbers.” If one of the members ends up in some “E! True Hollywood Story” kind of tragedy, you'd imagine a Broadway musical would suit the sound well. Luckily, the band is channeling all that pageantry onto the Canal Club stage, and not some tawdry cable thing, on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m. with the A.K.A.'s, Dr. Manhattan, Colin Healy and the Jetskis and the Battle of Me. $10-$12. 643-2582. — Brandon Reynolds
