What it is about flamenco music that stirs the soul? It takes a lot of practice and dedication to master this technically demanding style of arpeggio-driven playing from southern Spain, known for its passion and improvisational possibilities. Check out former Richmonder Leah Kruszewski, who’s been studying in Spain for several years, joined by dancer Ana Ines King and the Latin Ballet of Virginia with guest dancer Francisco Mesa “El Nano” on Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, guitarist, recording artist and James Madison University graduate Ricardo Marlow is joined by dancer Sara Jerez at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, March 25, Spanish flamenco guitar legend Spanish Torcuato Zamora performs with dancers Estela Velez de Paredez and Daniel Paredez at 4 p.m. All performances are at the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall in the Singleton Center for Performing Arts. $15 each. Free for Virginia Commonwealth University students with ID. arts.vcu.edu.
