Father at the Broadberry

Sunday, March 15

Father is not your average Dad. The trip-hop collective from Atlanta makes for an intoxicating journey into sound. As Mohammad Ali would say, the smooth, mysterious grooves float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. Equal parts Kool Keith abstraction, RZA soundscape wizardry and Tricky pre-millennium tensions, the music is a smoke cloud of blunted beats, swirling rhymes and bold belief. Timely summations of the black experience are its forte, spinning, weaving and imparting yarns with a measured pace and cadence careful to stay one step ahead of the authorities. This Father will find a whole new way to fight the power when it brings its Southern hip-hop charms to the Broadberry on Sunday, March 15. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $15-$20. thebroadberry.com.
