Exploring the Battle of Totopotomoy Creek at historic Rural Plains 

When: Sat., Sept. 7, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. 2013

Richmond National Battlefield Park and the new Rural Plains Foundation will kick off their partnership with a day of programs at the park’s Totopotomoy Creek battlefield unit at Rural Plains. During the free event, park rangers and foundation volunteers will tell the story of the historic Shelton House, and the ongoing work to preserve it. Tours of the 124-acre property will focus on the 1864 Battle of Totopotomoy Creek, and the experience of the civilians, both free and enslaved, who were caught in the maelstrom.
