Umphrey's McGee

There isn’t a genre of music that escapes the attention of Umphrey’s McGee. Rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues, electronic, bluegrass, folk, you name it — the band uses them all. Originally from South Bend, Indiana, the group’s affinity for genre-blending, lengthy performances and allowing fans to tape shows are straight from the Grateful Dead playbook of self-reliance. Despite the inundation and assimilation of influences, the group sounds like itself no matter what it’s playing. The ever-ending party of Umphrey’s McGee comes to town for two nights of long, strange trips Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13 and 14, at the National. Opening for both performances are fellow fusion fanatics Tauk from Oyster Bay, New York. Doors for the shows open at 7 p.m. Admission is $25-$30.
