July 24

Tungs is all about the feel. The Richmond trio’s slop punk ’n’ roll flows into the ear as if it was a liquid. That’s not to say that this noisy brand of pop lacks structure, but Tungs’ appeal is impressionistic — it doesn’t straitjacket its songs. Equal parts Sonic Youth, Stooges and early-rock-era Pere Ubu, the group’s stripped-down junkyard sound is engaging. Tungs celebrates the release of its new CD and tape, “You Could Call This Art,” on local label Bad Grrrl Records this Friday, July 24, at Gallery5. Joining it will be Richmond brothers from another mother, White Laces, and new capital city gloom-and-doomers, Slowing. Doors open at 8 p.m. Suggested admission is $5. gallery5arts.org.
