“It’s All About Friends”

Nobody knows more about being marginalized than the handicapped — the feeling of being pitied or avoided by the seemingly able-bodied. It’s an ignorance that will be cinematically addressed at the ReelAbilities Film Festival, March 3-6, at the Weinstein Jewish Community Center, the Visual Arts Center of Richmond and Strangeways Brewing Co. The festival will feature screenings of the 2013 Catalan documentary “Little World,” the family drama “No Ordinary Hero: the Superdeafy Movie” and “It’s All About Friends” (the sequel to “The Importance of Tying Your Own Shoes,” directed by Lena Koppel). The event includes other award-winning celluloid testimonies too, along with discussions about the themes explored in the films, led by professionals in the field or speakers living with the highlighted disability. Call 285-6500 or visit richmond.reelabilities.org.
