Event Pick: The Great Southern, Fire Walk With Me

Aug. 26 and 27

Fans of filmmaker David Lynch, you know who you are. Or should we say, you know who the dreamer is who lives inside the dream — or do you? This weekend is the annual local celebration of all things Lynchian known as the Great Southern to be held on Aug. 26 and 27 at various venues. Organizer Anders Bronson says this year it’s celebrating the 25th anniversary of “Fire Walk with Me,” which should be of special interest to those following “Twin Peaks: the Return” on Showtime.

Among the highlights: On Saturday, a “Twin Peaks” listening party at Steady Sounds with doughnuts and coffee from 4 to 6 p.m. (free) and “Cable Bends Steel” jam with live music by Gardener, Black Lodge Tarot and film trivia, plus prizes for best Fire Walk costumes at Mojo’s Philadeli at 733 W. Cary St., from 8 p.m. to midnight. It’s free.

On Sunday, Gold Cart presents Fire Brunch with Me at Comfort from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then you’ll have to fire up the DVR at home to record the latest episode of “Twin Peaks: the Return” so that you can catch the big finale at Strange Matter with a screening of “Fire Walk With Me” followed by live music by Little Black Rain Clouds, Baltimore’s Romantic States plus Band From Another Place, which includes members of Bad Magic and Big No. The movie is at 7 p.m. with music at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 online or $12 at door. thegreatsouthern-richmond.com.
