Talib Kweli

Talib Kweli has a gift for gab. Graduating from the Gil Scott-Heron school of imparting street knowledge, the Brooklyn-born wordsmith uses words and rhythms to entertain and educate. From his seminal 1998 breakthrough collaboration with Mos Def, “Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star,” to his scorching 2015 solo release, “Fuck the Money,” the linear that runs through his varied, hip-hopped body of work is one of informed defiance. Kweli doesn’t rhyme for the sake of riddling — he uses the mic like Auguste Rodin’s bronze sculpture “The Thinker” come to life. Talib Kweli speaks his fist-pumping, cross-cultural truths Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Broadberry. Niko Is, K Valentine and Chance Fischer get the thinking-person’s party started before he hits the stage. Doors open at 8 p.m. $20-$25. thebroadberry.com.
