Kiss is the quintessential American rock band. No other group represents the good, the bad and the ugly of our sometimes United States more than the Donald Trumps of rock ’n’ roll. As a fan of the band since I was 10, I can tell you the first thing you need to do to understand the group’s enduring appeal is to turn off your brain. Kiss isn’t a thinking experience. It is and always will be a glorious reprieve from the heady complexities of life. The group’s bombastic adherence to base pleasures has made it a beloved international icon. Like the nation that spawned the members of Kiss, they still execute bold belief in self better than just about anyone else. On Friday Sept. 9, Kiss exults the timeless virtues of the shallow end of the pool at the Richmond Coliseum. Doors open at 8 p.m. $39.50-$125.
