Oct. 8

Kurt Cobain used to love Dinosaur Jr. guitarist J. Mascis so much that he wanted him to join Nirvana. While Cobain flamed out in epic fashion, Mascis kept right on rocking, eventually reuniting the original lineup of his proto-grunge trio also featuring Lou Barlow on bass and Murph on drums (for an online interview with Murph, visit styleweekly.com). While most consider the band’s early album, “You’re Living All Over Me” to be its best effort, the dysfunctional trio is receiving the most consistently positive reviews of its 32-year career for more recent work such as 2016’s “Give a Glimpse” which the band is still touring behind. Also on the bill is Easy Action, the hard-hitting Detroit rock group featuring lead singer John Brannon, vocalist for Midwest hardcore crew Negative Approach. The show takes place on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $23-$26. thenationalva.com.
