Event Pick: Celebrate the Art of Latin America: Mexico at the VMFA

Sept. 12

Opening his presidential campaign June 12 with disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants, Republican presidential candidate and three-times-married real estate mogul Donald Trump has risen despite the lunacy of his xenophobic rants. If you’re looking to combat the not-so-silent tide of cultural, moral and social repugnance, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is marking Mexican independence with Celebrate the Art of Latin America: Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 12. With a parade, performances, interactive activities and arts-and-craft demonstrations, all members of the family should be entertained and educated by the cultural traditions of our neighbors to the south. The free fun runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 340-1400 or visit vmfa.museum.
