Bio Ritmo

With the Richmond Folk Festival in full cultural swing this weekend, it’s important to remember that this city is the birthplace and home of one of the best salsa bands in the world. We take it for granted, but longtime favorite Bio Ritmo is without equal in the modern world of Nuyorican-inspired dance music. On Sunday, Oct. 11, our native ambassadors of Latin melodic culture bring the Folk Fest to its rightful homegrown conclusion with their own mini-world-music showcase at Capital Ale House. Joining them will be local Afro-Brazilian martial art practitioners Capoeira Resistência and the polyphonic chants and dances of Richmond Folk Festival performers Zedashe from the Republic of Georgia. Given Bio Ritmo’s polyrhythmic experimentations, I’m sure all three will merge for your dancing pleasure throughout the evening. The perfect ending to festival weekend begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 ($8 with a Richmond Folk Festival donation sticker). capitalalehouse.com.
