Agreed. I remember being in college, working on the living wage campaign when I was a freshman at VCU in 2001: she told me we needed to make a bunch of signs for the MLK Day celebration. I looked at her and thought "Really? But I can't, I've got so much homework!"

Of course I did though: you'd do anything for that Spirit. The thing about Mary Lou was that she made you feel important, needed, of use.

I actually framed and kept one of the pictures, of MLK, from those signs we made. It has stayed with me all these years, hanging on my wall to remind me that with enough elbow grease, change happens.
