Re: “The Long Walk

I'm not from the US, but like the vast majority of Europeans I do have an opinion based on cultural differences that exit between living in the US and in England. Strict gun laws exit in the UK and other European countries I've lived, and it does make a difference. It's about creating a safe culture without the necessity to demonstrate firearm ownership. Part of the issue is that if you give people the chance to own a possession such as an automatic weapon they will attempt to acquire it because of the status and the 'satisfaction' they get from obliterating things with it. All you have to do is visit a gun show to watch gun enthusiasts in action firing anti-tank,anti-aircraft,chain and mini guns....! I guess people get a sense of I'm bigger and better than you because I can fire some artillery at a stationary target.... I understand that you can't change the gun culture in the US overnight since it is so ingrained, but the fact is that if you place some regulation on guns and ammunition it will eventually have an affect on the number of deaths caused by a gun desensitized culture of people who insist to exercise their right to own a gun because they are paranoid of being attacked or they simply want to show everyone they have a 'tool' to destroy things. One thing that amazes me is that it's possible to buy a firearm that has been designed for the battle field.Surely this is where they should stay. You've got to ask the question:Why would anyone need a military grade automatic or semi automatic weapon for shooting game animals?Rather than spending loads of money developing arms we should be investing in being creative about generating energy for the next generation and educating our kids in being able to accept the differences that exist between different ethnic groups.Do that and then perhaps governments will be able to preempt unnecessary wars and conflicts.
