Sometimes you just need to listen to something hateful. And when those ill-will moments strike, Dope Body is here for you. The Baltimore group is hatefully catchy, mixing the noisy and tuneful much in the same way Ohio’s Brainiac did in the 1990s. Distorted guitars dominate the quartet’s attack with vocalist Andrew Laumann’s shredded throat articulating guttural expressions more than actual words. Rhythms are taunt and unyielding, and they give the group’s primal scream therapies their vaguely pop, off-kilter definition. The Drag City Records recording artists bring their bad-tempered sludge to Strange Matter on Wednesday, Oct. 22. Richmond malcontents Navi, Men’s Room, New Turks and Kisser from St. Louis open the show with their respective bad-is-good moods. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission for the 18-and-older show is $8. strangematterrva.com.
