Re: “Boone’s Farm

I completely agree with the sentiments - and the specific points - in Scott Burger's draft resolution. It embodies what are indeed the ends of the Occupy movement, and it would be great if the Richmond City Council were to express its support for these goals. But these ends are outside the purview of any City Council, and their is little they can do except for expressing their support for them AND encourage others to do the same. A practical way to do the latter would be to help the Occupy Richmond movement get its message across to a broader public by allowing them to use public space for this purpose.

What the Council has done, though, is try to block members of Occupy Richmond from expressing their views in public spaces, by evicting them from the park, and by treating them as real or potential criminals rather than citizens exercising the constitutional rights in public. THIS is the issue on which Occupy Richmond has, quite appropriately, taken issue with the city.
